On the 21st of September 2023, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero announced a significant change in compliance with BUS Regulation 13(4). This revision entails a substantial increase in the grant levels for air source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps.

Starting from the 23rd of October 2023, installers will have the opportunity to apply for these enhanced grants, which are structured based on specific technology categories:

• Air source heat pumps – a substantial grant of £7,500 is now available.
• Ground source heat pumps – likewise, a generous grant of £7,500 is accessible.
• Biomass boilers – eligible for a grant of £5,000.

This means that any voucher applications submitted for heat pumps on or after the 23rd of October 2023 will automatically qualify for the increased grant amount, provided they meet the stipulated BUS eligibility criteria and successfully redeem the voucher within its validity period.

It’s important to note that vouchers that have already been issued will retain the grant value originally stated on the voucher, regardless of when they are submitted for redemption. While these vouchers can still be redeemed both before and after the 23rd of October 2023, installers also have the option to withdraw their vouchers through the installer dashboard and reapply after the new grant levels take effect.

It’s important to note that a substantial £450 million in grant funding is available over a three-year period from 2022 to 2025. This initiative underscores the commitment to advancing the adoption of eco-friendly heating technologies and achieving a more sustainable future for UK communities.
